About me

French&Italian

Languages for me are a lifelong personal passion as well as my work. My love of languages and different cultures began when I started learning French and German at secondary school. Growing up as part of a family where foreign travel and language learning was both embraced and encouraged, my love of languages soon progressed to Italian.

My passion for languages was consolidated when I studied Modern Languages at the University of Leicester obtaining a BA Honours Degree in Modern Languages (French, Italian & English Literature). After graduating in 1996 I moved to Padua in Northern Italy for a while during which time I decided that I wanted to specialise in translation and subsequently came back to London where I enrolled on and successfully completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Technical and Specialised Translation (French, Italian and Portuguese) at the University of Westminster in London.

After completing my Post-graduate Diploma in Translation I went to live in France where I worked as an In-house Translator at Accent Mondial, a Translation and Interpreting Company in Grenoble before later heading back to England where I worked as a Translation Project Coordinator at Bilinguagroup, a London-based Translation Agency. After having had this opportunity to familiarise myself with the translation industry I decided to branch out and work as a freelance translator which I have been doing ever since.

I have been very fortunate to have worked consistently over this period with many clients from all over the world including translation agencies, direct and private clients. Current clients are based in the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy and Hong Kong.

In terms of professional memberships, I have been a Qualified Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) since 2002 which is a UK-based association which represents the interests of professional linguists the world-over. As a member of the CIOL, I strictly adhere to their Code of Professional Conduct.

In addition to my work as a translator, I also hold a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language which I completed shortly after graduating. I have been able to put this qualification to use teaching English to primary and secondary school aged students both abroad and in the UK and also teaching English to adults at a Language School in London. I also have experience private tutoring EFL, French and Italian.
